Senior Digital Forensic Expert Heather Barnhart noted the abnormal lack of communication.
Barnhart stated that Kohberger used incognito windows to minimize his digital footprint in the days leading to his apprehension.
“The searches that he had just show his state of mind. He wanted to minimize his digital footprint.
He did not want to be detected. He wanted to remain completely anonymous,” she said.
Recordings and past forum entries highlighted in the documentary also revealed Kohberger's teenage struggles with severe isolation and visual snow syndrome.
In one entry, he wrote, “I feel like an organic sack of meat with no self worth.
As I hug my family, I look into their faces, I see nothing, it is like I am looking at a video game, but less.”
Former acquaintances recounted his historical struggles with substance abuse prior to his academic career in criminology. Friend Jack Baylis said, “I think drugs goofed him pretty bad.
He was having a time.
He'd tell me, 'I'm clean now, I'm totally clean now,' and he'd have bleeding track marks [on his arms].”
The civil post-conviction proceedings will determine whether Kohberger's claims meet the necessary evidence standards to move forward to a full hearing.
