The military escalation coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington for high-level meetings with US leadership.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the discussions as "positive and productive." Netanyahu characterized his nearly 90-minute closed-door discussion with Donald Trump as excellent.

Trump also hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for separate talks regarding air defense capabilities.
