SpaceX launched a classified reconnaissance satellite for the U. S.
National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) early on July 30 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 3:09 a. m.
EDT, initiating the NROL-95 mission.
This was the fourth NRO launch of 2026 and the first from Cape Canaveral this year, following three launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
The rocket's first-stage booster completed its seventh flight and returned to Landing Zone 2 at Cape Canaveral about 8.5 minutes after liftoff.
The booster's return produced sonic booms heard across the Space Coast and Central Florida, as anticipated by officials.
Mission Patch and Symbolism
The NRO has kept the payload details secret.
The mission patch depicts a snarling ferret against a nighttime sky with the motto "We are the Champions."

NRO officials described the ferret as symbolizing agility, resilience, and a spirit of victory.
"The ferret, a clever creature, embodies agility and resilience — key traits for exploration.
Its confident grin and bright eyes reflect a spirit of victory in a realm where determination meets adventure," said NRO officials.
"The bold phrase 'We are the Champions' encapsulates the camaraderie and pride shared among those on this purposeful mission," they added.
The Falcon 9 booster used for the launch had previously flown six missions including commercial, scientific, and government payloads such as Amazon KF-01, IMAP, NROL-77, GPS III-9, CRS-34 ISS resupply, and a Starlink flight.
SpaceX's launch preparations included a detailed countdown process, and the 45th Weather Squadron forecasted a 70% chance of favorable weather conditions for the liftoff.

Brevard County Emergency Management activated its launch support team for the event, and residents were warned about the potential sonic booms following the booster's landing.
