Residents in Rossburn, Manitoba, have rallied to support retirees Brian and Bernadine Brown after a violent EF-3 tornado destroyed their historic century-old home on June 28.
The tornado struck southwest of Rossburn during a severe thunderstorm, with estimated wind speeds between 225 and 265 km/h.

It stripped bricks from walls, tore off the upper half of the couple's barn, and shredded nearby trees.
Subsequent rainfall severely damaged what remained of the 4,000-square-foot structure.
Wet drywall began collapsing from the ceilings, forcing the municipality to install a locked gate to deter onlookers.
"It would be impossible to rebuild this house... It wouldn't be the same," said Brian Brown.
The Rossburn community organized fundraisers for the Brown family and another local household affected by the storm.
Karen Bergeson, leader of the Riding Mountain 4-H Club, assisted with volunteer efforts during two fundraising initiatives that gathered donations and messages of support from roughly 100 people.
"I was impressed to see so many people turn out to offer their help," said Bergeson.
The Browns expressed their appreciation by sending a support card to another family recovering from tornado destruction in the area.

"It really touches me, because it proves that people can truly stick together," Bergeson added.
The affected couple has temporarily relocated to a 500-square-foot apartment in Rossburn while consulting with insurance representatives.
They are making necessary living adjustments for Bernadine Brown, who suffers from muscular dystrophy.
"The community support has been incredible," said Brian Brown.
The family plans to move to Oakbank next summer to reside closer to their children and grandchildren.
"We went from a 4,000-square-foot house to a 500-square-foot unit. Naturally, we couldn't bring much with us," he said.
Rebuilding the original homestead was deemed impossible due to its historic architecture.

"I really believe we will end up biting the bullet and living near our children and grandchildren," Brown concluded.
