Evacuation Challenges for Pet Owners
Many residents near Bordeaux had to flee suddenly, leaving their animals behind. Evacuation buses did not allow pets on board, creating urgent challenges for animal care and shelter.
To address this, large networks of volunteers and residents in unaffected areas have opened their homes to displaced animals.

Marie-Astrid, a Biscarrosse resident who escaped the fires on July 23, described the evacuation as traumatic.
She said, "I do not wish for anyone to have to put their children in the back of a car and see red flames in the rearview mirror."
She has since used social media to support those affected, sharing aid links and coordinating shelter for displaced families, as reported by parismatch.

Her neighborhood was spared, but nearby streets were severely damaged, with over 240 homes destroyed and more than 3,600 hectares burned in just a few days.

Alongside animal rescue, many French people have offered food, clothing, and housing to evacuees, reflecting widespread solidarity in response to the disaster.
