Chicago White Sox scouts were in attendance on July 28, 2026, as New York Mets right-hander Clay Holmes delivered a scoreless four-inning rehab assignment for Single-A St. Lucie.

The outing came just days before the Major League Baseball trade deadline on August 3.

Holmes threw 59 pitches in his second minor league appearance since recovering from a broken right leg sustained on May 15.

The performance cleared a significant health hurdle for interested teams, with scouts noting that Holmes appears ready for a major league return.

Chicago is among six organizations monitoring the 33-year-old pitcher as General Manager Chris Getz seeks rotation help for a first-place club.

Holmes previously logged 2.1 innings for Triple-A Syracuse on July 23, allowing two earned runs on 51 pitches.

Over the last two seasons with the Mets, Holmes has posted a 16-12 record with a 3.26 ERA across 40 starts.

In the 2026 campaign, he has recorded a 2.39 ERA.

The last-place Mets are positioned as sellers ahead of the deadline.
