The influx resulted in at least 18 fatalities during the border storming.
Reports vary on the exact number of arrivals.
El País reported over 40,000 migrants reached Ceuta, while El Mundo cited 20,000, and other outlets estimated up to 49,000.
Border Crisis Response
Migrants entered Ceuta by swimming, using boats, or climbing the border fences. Officials have not yet released details on the circumstances of the 18 deaths.
In response, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the Interior Minister scheduled a visit to Ceuta.
Meanwhile, border crossings at the neighboring Spanish exclave of Melilla were closed late in the evening to prevent a similar breach, though local authorities reported about 400 migrants still managed to enter.
Migrants often view the Spanish exclaves as a gateway to the European Union, seeking residence permits that would allow them to travel further within member states.
Previous attempts involved smaller numbers, including an incident where around 10,000 migrants reached Spanish territory.
