BYD and Sinopec, a state-owned petroleum giant, are converting old gas stations into ultra-fast EV charging hubs.
The first location, a former Sinopec gas station in Shanghai, now features BYD's 1,500 kW Flash Charging technology.

These chargers can take an EV battery from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes, and from 10 to 97 percent in just nine minutes.
The two companies have been collaborating since mid-2024, and this Shanghai site marks the first completed conversion.
More Conversions Planned
Sinopec plans to convert more of its fuel stations into Flash Charging hubs.
The chargers are arranged like gas pumps, with six large T-shaped units, each equipped with two plugs. The site retains a convenience store and a lounge for drivers.

Each Flash Charger includes four spare Blade batteries (169 kWh or 185 kWh) to provide backup power during blackouts.
These batteries can also top up eligible BYD EVs and PHEVs.
BYD's Flash Charging technology is supported by EVs and PHEVs equipped with second-generation Blade batteries.

This development brings charging speeds nearly in line with refueling a combustion car, directly replacing traditional gas stations.
