Ford is accelerating its plan to expand the Mustang family with a four-door sedan, and new details suggest electrification will play a key role without sacrificing the V8 rumble.
The car, previously referred to as the Mustang Mach 4, has now progressed beyond sketches.

At a private dealer gathering in Las Vegas, Ford unveiled the first physical prototype.
Hybrid V8 Under the Hood
According to two attendees who spoke with The WSJ, the Mach 4 will feature a hybrid powertrain, with one specifying a hybrid V8.
This setup would help Ford meet tightening emissions regulations while preserving the combustion character that defines a muscle car.
This approach differs from the fully electric Mach-E crossover, aiming to strike a balance between performance and efficiency.
The prototype is said to ride on a stretched version of the current Mustang's chassis, which could reduce development costs and leverage existing hardware.
Dealers described the car's footprint as similar to a Porsche Panamera, with styling cues borrowed from its two-door sibling.

Ford reportedly told dealers the Mach 4 would start under $40,000 and accelerate to 60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds.
The sedan is expected to arrive closer to the end of the decade, part of Ford's strategy to broaden the Mustang nameplate as consumer preferences shift toward more practical body styles.
While the Mustang remains the world's best-selling sports car, US sales have declined from over 122,000 units in 2015 to around 45,000 in 2025.
Ford aims to grow the brand rather than watch it shrink.
Competition is heating up: General Motors is preparing a four-door Camaro revival with a V8 and possibly a manual gearbox, though it has slipped to the 2029 model year.
