Toyota is recalling nearly 48,000 Tacoma TRD Off-Road trucks from the 2024-2025 model years due to a corrosion issue that could cause a shock absorber reservoir to detach while driving.
The problem affects the remote reservoir shocks on the TRD Off-Road package.

Over time, the oil reservoir can corrode and eventually break away from the truck, potentially leaving it lying in the road.
Toyota warns that this could create a hazard for other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash.
However, the company does not mention any increased risk for Tacoma drivers themselves, as the suspension may still function, albeit not as intended.
Recall Details and Remedy
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by early October.

They will be instructed to bring their truck to a Toyota dealer, where the front and rear shock absorber assemblies will be inspected.
If necessary, the affected shock absorbers will be replaced with improved ones at no cost to the owner.
This recall is separate from another Tacoma recall announced earlier this month, which involved older 2014-2021 models that may have been fitted with faulty replacement airbags after an accident.

In that case, the airbag supplier may not have correctly secured the airbag to its mounting bracket, which could reduce the airbag's effectiveness in a crash.
