Power and Capability
Under the hood sits a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a 10-speed automatic and a two-speed transfer case.
Front and rear lockers, skid plates, and Multimatic DSSV dampers make it a trail weapon. It can tow up to 8,700 pounds when properly equipped.
On-Road Compromises
But this capability comes at a cost.
My test truck averaged just 11.9 mpg over 210 miles, far below the EPA's 15 mpg combined estimate.
Its sheer size makes it feel like piloting a boat through town. Parking and tight maneuvers require constant attention.
The cabin is a highlight, with a large, responsive infotainment screen and physical controls for climate and truck functions.

The Silverado ZR2 is a serious off-road machine, but it's not for everyone. Its thirst for fuel and massive footprint are significant trade-offs.
If you need a truck that can conquer trails and don't mind frequent gas station visits, the ZR2 delivers.
Otherwise, a more moderate pickup might be a better fit.
