Avant Design and the Watt Electric Vehicle Company, a British EV van manufacturer, have teamed up to create a concept for a featherweight Lotus 2+2.

The design features scissor doors up front and Mazda RX-8-style suicide doors at the rear.

Some argue Lotus has lost its way with the all-electric Eletre SUV and Emeya sedan, both built in China.

However, its upcoming hybrid supercar could restore its reputation, and a 2+2 model like this could further energize the brand.

A Virtual Reality Development

The concept was initially commissioned by Autocar for its 2025 Christmas edition. Avant Design and Watt used virtual reality tools to speed up development of a functional car.

It rides on Watt's PACES skateboard platform, which supports electric, combustion, and hybrid powertrains. According to Car & Driver, a drivable version was shown at this year's CES.

Despite its small proportions, the car could accommodate a compact V8, similar to the Koenigsegg Gemera.

Watt's boss Neil Yates says the car could weigh just 1,984 lbs (900 kg), fitting Lotus's lightweight philosophy.

Visually, the car features a blacked-out bumper, narrow LED headlights, and flowing quarter panels.

It sits on silver-and-black wheels, has digital wing mirrors, and suicide doors for the rear seats. The front doors are Lamborghini-inspired scissor doors.

The rear end includes a see-through lip spoiler that doubles as LED taillights and a light bar.

The design is coherent and could be something Lotus itself would produce.

In addition to a powerful V8, the concept could include light in-wheel motors for added performance.
