Legal teams for pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce are reportedly drafting one of the most extensive celebrity prenuptial agreements in history.
The document comes ahead of their rumored weekend wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Massive Wealth Gap Drives Complex Negotiations
Swift possesses an estimated net worth of $2 billion, ranking 2,052nd on the Forbes Billionaires List. Kelce holds an estimated net worth of $70 million.
Atty Bruggemann, a New York-based matrimonial and family law attorney, analyzed the potential complexity of the multi-billion-dollar legal document for The Independent.
Bruggemann described it as one of the "most sophisticated prenuptial documents probably ever drafted," adding that it will be equivalent to a "short novel" in length.
The attorney noted that both individuals will list specific individual assets to safeguard their personal fortunes rather than pursuing shared marital property.
"I think there's going to be carve-outs for every penny that they earn," Bruggemann told The Independent.
Negotiations likely began immediately following their engagement last August, when Kelce proposed at his mansion in Leawood, Kansas.
"The prenuptial agreement negotiations probably started the day after they got engaged," said Bruggemann.
Assets and Future Earnings Under Scrutiny
The agreement is expected to cover Swift's global music empire, publishing rights, royalties, touring profits, and an extensive real estate portfolio valued upwards of $80 million.
Her properties include a $50 million compound in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood, an estate in Rhode Island, and properties in Nashville and Los Angeles.
"There will be pages and pages of disclosure on her business entities and her intellectual property alone," said the attorney.
Kelce also has substantial assets requiring protection, including his NFL earnings, endorsements, and his New Heights podcast.
The podcast secured a $100 million licensing deal with Amazon's Wondery network in 2024.
"He's got his podcast with his brother, his NFL earnings, endorsements and media stuff," said Bruggemann.
The legal expert emphasized the importance of comprehensive financial disclosure for both high-profile individuals before finalizing the document.
"My recommendation would make this document as detailed as possible, and that every asset is disclosed," said Bruggemann.
A major point of discussion involves future earnings, particularly if Swift creates musical content inspired by their marriage.
"My big question is, what are they going to do about future earnings?" said Bruggemann.
Bruggemann questioned whether future creative works detailing their life together would remain solely her property or feature specific asset carve-outs.
"If she writes songs during the marriage and writes another album, then it's all about him and their life together.
Is she going to say that that's entirely hers or, you know, is there going to be some sort of carve-out for subject matter?"
said Bruggemann.
Swift's legal team is also expected to incorporate an appreciation clause to handle future valuation increases on her current holdings independently.
"Everything that she has now, regardless of whether it appreciates during the marriage, is still hers.
If her real estate catalog is worth $1 billion and it goes to $3 billion, he's not getting a piece of that $3 billion," said Bruggemann.
The attorney concluded that this prenuptial agreement represents the baseline of their long-term financial relationship.
"I don't think this is going to be the last contract between them," said the attorney.
Bruggemann expects that all subsequent collaborations between the couple will focus heavily on commercial prospects.
"Yes, they're getting married, but I think future ventures between them are going to be all about business," said Bruggemann.
Ashley Silberfeld, a California-based Partner in Blank Rome's Matrimonial and Family Law Group, offered broader advice regarding the emotional and practical benefits of navigating prenuptial negotiations.
"You have to be really clear with your spouse about what your goals are and what your wishes are," she said.
Silberfeld noted that successfully finalizing a prenup serves as a positive indicator for the long-term health of a marriage.
"It's a really good indicator, in my opinion, if a couple can get through the prenuptial agreement negotiation and become stronger than when the negotiations started, because that shows that they can have the tough conversations," she said.
Representatives for Swift and Kelce did not immediately provide comment to The Independent regarding the ongoing legal preparations.
