Robert Halewijn, the partner of Privé editor-in-chief Evert Santegoeds, sustained a complicated leg fracture after being struck by a speeding vehicle in a hit-and-run accident in France.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 27, 2026, around 10:00 p. m.
, shortly after the couple had finished dinner.
According to Santegoeds, an unlit vehicle suddenly hit Halewijn at high speed and fled the scene.
Halewijn was hospitalized and underwent surgery on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to treat a proximal tibia fracture.
Santegoeds stated that the situation could have resulted in a much worse outcome, adding, "He crept through the eye of the needle."
The editor-in-chief expressed gratitude for the immediate medical and local assistance provided during the emergency.
Halewijn is scheduled to return home early next week to continue his recovery.
