A Ukrainian military intelligence officer has confessed to killing Anastasia Berezovska, a woman suspected of attempting to assassinate businessman Vadym Iermolaiev in Monaco, according to a joint statement released by the Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on July 7.
The two agencies announced that Ukrainian law enforcement discovered Berezovska's body after launching an investigation into her death on July 1.
Monaco authorities suspected Berezovska of carrying out the June 29 bomb attack against Iermolaiev.
According to investigators, Berezovska arrived in Ukraine on July 1, 2026. The authorities identified the people she had been in contact with and traced her movements.
Investigators discovered that Berezovska interacted with her family, a former law enforcement officer, and an active officer with Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) upon her return.
Financial records showed that both men had sent her funds using bank accounts and cryptocurrency wallets.
Knowing that both men had repeatedly transferred money to Berezovska via cryptocurrency wallets and bank accounts, investigators examined them as possible suspects in the attempted murder in Monaco.
During interrogation, the active HUR operative admitted to committing the murder alongside the other suspect, noting he acted independently without informing his superiors about his contact or financial transactions with Berezovska.
Officials stated her body bore gunshot wounds to the head alongside spent shell casings.
During urgent investigative steps, the active HUR officer confessed to killing Berezovska together with another suspect.
He also said that he had not informed his superiors about his contacts with Berezovska, the money transfers, or any of his other actions, and had acted on his own initiative.
Authorities conducting a search at the former law enforcement officer's residence discovered a basement configured like a torture chamber.
Both individuals were subsequently placed under arrest.

The joint agencies confirmed that formal legal charges are currently being prepared against the detained individuals.
Both suspects were detained on suspicion of committing murder as part of a group acting in concert.
The pre-trial investigation is currently being managed by Ukraine's National Police, with counterintelligence backing from the SBU and direct assistance from Military Intelligence Chief Oleh Ivashchenko.
The underlying Monaco incident on June 29 involved an explosion that critically injured Iermolaiev and his wife, while their 13-year-old son sustained stable, non-life-threatening injuries.
Iermolaiev is a wealthy Dnipro businessman holding Cypriot citizenship who has resided in Monaco since 2022.
He was sanctioned by President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2023 over allegations of collaborating with Russia through a Crimea-based business, which Iermolaiev has denied.
Zelensky previously addressed the targets of those sanctions: those who aid Russia's aggression, those who assist it, and those who have chosen the disgraceful path of collaborating with the terrorist state.
The Kyiv Independent reported that it has requested a formal comment from Ukraine's military intelligence regarding the confession and investigation.
