Argentina secured a 3-1 victory over Switzerland in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday, booking their spot in the semi-finals.

The match in Atlanta saw Switzerland reduced to ten men late in the game.

Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring with a header, but Switzerland equalized through Dan Ndoye in the second half.

Lionel Messi struggled to break through the Swiss defense, but Julián Álvarez restored Argentina's lead with a stunning long-range strike.

Lautaro Martínez sealed the win with a late goal from a rebound, making the final score 3-1.

Switzerland had pressed early and looked promising, but after conceding, they lost momentum.

Switzerland's Frustration

Swiss coach Murat Yakin expressed disappointment over the simplicity of Argentina's opening goal.

"Argentina had just shown in attack for the first time, a deflected Mac Allister drive resulting in successive corners," Yakin said.

"We needed to be more resilient."

Switzerland's chances faded after Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for diving, shifting momentum back to Argentina.

Despite their efforts, including a significant equalizer, the Swiss could not recover.

Argentina will now face England in the semi-finals, a historic match for Lionel Messi as he aims to win his first World Cup title.
