Ella Langley's country single "Choosin’ Texas" has spent its 15th consecutive week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a new record for the longest-running US No. 1 by a solo female artist for a non-holiday track.

The achievement surpasses iconic hits like Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," both of which held the top spot for 14 weeks.

The midtempo country two-step blends a retro sound with modern production, resonating with audiences nationwide.

Streaming Dominance

On the Streaming Songs chart, "Choosin’ Texas" has maintained the number one position for 16 weeks, tying Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" as the fourth-longest-running leader in the chart's history.

Langley is the only country artist to achieve such streaming dominance in recent years.

The song debuted on the Streaming Songs chart in November 2025 and took several months to reach number one in January 2026.

It has spent 40 weeks on the streaming tally, with its time at the top split across six separate runs despite interruptions from major releases by artists like Bruno Mars, Olivia Rodrigo, Drake, and Taylor Swift.

Victoria Banks, a Nashville-based songwriter and Belmont University instructor, credits the song's understated and nostalgic qualities for its appeal.

"It’s a sleeper hit – it’s understated and unassuming," Banks said.

"Everything about the song throws back to a simpler time in country music that people are really craving."

Brian Mansfield, managing editor of Country Insider, explained that the track's "twangy-but-smooth sound" allows it to fit well alongside various music formats, boosting its radio and streaming playability.

"It’s a song that sounds good next to almost anything you can play," he remarked.

The lyrics narrate a Tennessee woman's journey accompanying her lover to Texas, discovering his heart remains in his home state.

The songwriting team, including Miranda Lambert, Joybeth Taylor, and Luke Dick, incorporated classic country themes and references, which helped the song avoid criticism for being "too pop."

Social media played a significant role in the song's rise.

Viral TikTok videos, including one featuring an interpretive dance performed by Lane Gorrell in front of cows, garnered millions of views.

Humorous misheard lyric videos also drew further attention, contributing to its streaming success.

The song's fanbase, dubbed the "Ella Fellas," has actively promoted the track through viral content, concerts, and fan events, with Langley's team supporting this engagement by sharing fan videos and merchandise.

Industry experts note that this country music surge corresponds with a broader shift in American music tastes, as hip-hop and pop dominance from the 2010s give way to a revival of country, rock, and roots music styles.

This trend reflects a cultural desire for music with regional accents and authentic instrumentation, moving away from the highly polished, genre-blending sounds that characterized the previous decade.

Langley's continued success includes several other streaming chart top 10 hits, such as "Be Her" and "I Can’t Love You Anymore," her duet with Morgan Wallen, underscoring her growing influence in the country and pop music landscape.
