Kauai is forecast to see sunny conditions and temperatures reaching 91 degrees on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as moderate trade winds return across Hawaii.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for generally dry weather on the island, with isolated showers concentrated in windward and mountainous areas and stronger winds developing through Thursday.
Coastal areas of Kauai could reach highs of 84 to 91 degrees, while locations above 3,000 feet are expected to reach around 77 degrees.
Overnight lows should range from approximately 74 degrees near the shore to 64 degrees at higher elevations.
South Kauai is forecast to experience highs of 79 to 90 degrees on Wednesday, with northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph.
North Kauai temperatures are expected to range from 73 to 87 degrees, while East Kauai could see highs between 79 and 86 degrees.
Isolated showers remain possible in several districts, with rain chances generally around 20 percent.
Mountain areas will experience cooler conditions and a greater likelihood of showers.
The forecast calls for valley highs of 77 to 83 degrees and temperatures around 70 degrees above 4,000 feet.
Wednesday night should bring increasing cloud cover and scattered showers after midnight, with a 40 percent chance of rain in the mountainous region.
Weather Pattern and Wind Outlook
The National Weather Service expects the broader weather pattern to remain relatively stable as an upper-level trough moves east of the islands and a surface high-pressure system develops north of Hawaii.
This high-pressure system is expected to strengthen the trade winds, which will carry passing bands of low clouds and showers toward windward slopes and elevated terrain, particularly overnight and during the morning.
Conditions could become wetter later in the week.
An approaching upper-level trough and an area of increased low-level moisture are forecast to raise shower chances from Friday afternoon into Saturday.
Cooler temperatures in the middle levels of the atmosphere could also contribute to brief, isolated heavy showers.
Some instability may persist through the weekend, although a drier pattern could develop early next week as available moisture decreases.
Across the surrounding waters, trade winds are forecast to strengthen from moderate to locally fresh levels on Thursday.
The National Weather Service says conditions could reach Small Craft Advisory levels as early as Wednesday night in typically windier waters near Maui and the Big Island, with advisory-level winds potentially continuing through the weekend.
Surf conditions will vary by shoreline as swells move through the region.
A long-period northwest swell is expected to decline from Wednesday night through Friday before a new north-northwest swell builds late Friday.
That swell should help keep surf near seasonal averages through the weekend.
South-facing shores are expected to retain elevated surf through Wednesday before another south swell supports near-seasonal conditions from Thursday into early the weekend.
East-facing shores should continue to see small surf through Thursday, although choppier conditions could develop Friday into the weekend as trade winds strengthen.
Aviation conditions are expected to remain predominantly Visual Flight Rules through Wednesday, according to the forecast, although brief periods of lower ceilings may occur when showers pass.
No AIRMETs are currently in effect.
Fire weather conditions also remain a concern in parts of Hawaii.
The forecast indicates that dry air could keep afternoon relative humidity near critical levels over the next several days before humidity rises toward the end of the week.
Another drying trend may develop over the weekend and continue into early next week.
