Netflix has officially confirmed that a sequel to the animated musical film KPop Demon Hunters is in development following the original movie’s remarkable global success.
Since its debut in June 2025, the film has attracted a large international fan base and achieved major milestones across music, film, and streaming platforms. The soundtrack’s standout track “Golden” topped the Billboard Global 200, while the cast appeared on programs such as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and even performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The film’s awards run has also been notable. KPop Demon Hunters has already earned recognition from the Critics Choice Awards, the Grammys, and the Golden Globes, while also receiving two nominations at the Academy Awards.
Creative Team Returns for the Sequel
According to Netflix’s Tudum platform, co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to lead the upcoming sequel.
Kang expressed excitement about continuing the story, noting that the strong response from audiences highlights global interest in stories centered on Korean characters and culture.
“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang said in a statement. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”
Story Details Still Under Wraps
Plot details for the sequel have not yet been revealed, but the creative team has hinted that the next installment will expand the world introduced in the first film.
Appelhans explained that the characters remain central to the project’s direction. “These characters are like family to us,” he said. “We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve while continuing to push the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”
Cast Likely to Return
While Netflix has not officially confirmed the full voice cast, several actors from the original film are widely expected to reprise their roles.
These include Arden Cho, Ejae, May Hong, Audrey Nuna, Ji-young Yoo, and Rei Ami, who provided the voices and singing performances for the girl group HUNTR/X. Ken Jeong is also expected to return as the group’s manager, Bobby.
Whether characters connected to the Saja Boys or the demon king Gwi-Wa—voiced by Lee Byung-hun—will appear in the sequel remains unclear.
Release Timeline Remains Uncertain
Despite confirmation that the sequel is moving forward, Netflix has not announced a release date.
Animated productions typically require several years to complete, meaning the next installment may not arrive until the end of the decade.
Until then, fans continue to revisit the film’s soundtrack and performances while waiting for the next chapter of the franchise.
