Andrei Svechnikov scored at 14:06 of overtime on Monday to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final at Bell Centre.

The win gives the top-seeded Hurricanes a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Svechnikov received a pass from Seth Jarvis above the right circle and shot past a screen set by Sebastian Aho.

Carolina had also won Game 2 in overtime. The next game is scheduled for Wednesday in Montreal.

First Period Action

Shayne Gostisbehere opened the scoring for Carolina at 8:24 of the first period, converting a deflected shot from Mark Jankowski.

The play started when Eric Robinson won a puck battle in the right corner.

Montreal tied the game 1-1 at 15:28 when Mike Matheson scored on a wrist shot over the glove of goaltender Frederik Andersen, following a pass from behind the net by Ivan Demidov.

Taylor Hall put the Hurricanes back ahead 2-1 at 16:22 of the opening period by scoring on his own rebound.

The play developed after K'Andre Miller chased down a puck dumped into the corner by Jackson Blake.

Second Period and Overturned Goal

The Canadiens leveled the score 2-2 at 4:43 of the second period during a power play.

Lane Hutson completed a continuous give-and-go sequence with Cole Caufield by executing a 2-on-1 rush past Andersen.

Montreal appeared to take a 3-2 lead at 8:28 of the third period on a goal by Noah Dobson.

However, the score was overturned after Carolina successfully challenged that Caufield was offside prior to the goal.

The Hurricanes outshot the Canadiens 38-13 during the game, establishing a 15-5 shot advantage in the opening period.

Goaltender Jakub Dobes made 35 saves for Montreal, while Andersen stopped 10 shots for Carolina.
