The 2026 NHL Draft is approaching, and the Pittsburgh Penguins continue their prospect evaluation series.

This assessment coincides with the NHL Combine in Buffalo, running from Monday through Saturday, where teams interview elite prospects, review medical reports, and begin trade discussions.

After reviewing defenseman Ryan Lin, the Penguins now focus on forward Nikita Klepov, a potential target at the No. 22 overall pick.

Klepov had a dominant 2025-26 season with the OHL's Saginaw Spirit, recording 37 goals and 97 points in 67 games.

The performance followed his 2024-25 campaign in the USHL with the Sioux City Musketeers.

Playing right wing, Klepov stands out for his powerful skating and high-end acceleration.

His offensive skills include deceptive puck handling, agility, elite playmaking vision, and efficiency from the right circle on the power play.

Klepov's Lethal One-Timer and Offensive Versatility

Klepov's dangerous one-timer from the right circle was evident in a game against the Flint Firebirds.

Trailing 3-0, he passed to the left point, moved to his spot, and fired a quick one-timer into the net.

In a 1-1 game against the Brampton Steelheads, he scored a power-play goal with a shot that beat the goaltender instantly.

Beyond perimeter shooting, Klepov battles in dirty areas and drives to the net for high-grease goals.

He also contributes on the penalty kill, using his speed to create shorthanded chances.
