TSG Hoffenheim has reached an agreement to sign FC Twente left-back Mats Rots for a club-record transfer fee that could reach 16 million euros, including guaranteed bonuses.

The 20-year-old defender has already completed his medical examination with the Bundesliga club, according to reports from Algemeen Dagblad, and will sign a long-term contract extending until mid-2031.

The deal surpasses the previous outbound transfer record held by Dusan Tadic, who moved from Twente to Southampton for 14 million euros in 2014.

Transfer Details and Competition

Hoffenheim initially submitted a lower bid but moved decisively in recent days due to intense competition for the young defender.

Rots had also attracted interest from PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto, and Newcastle United.

The player reportedly sought an early summer transfer to secure maximum playing time during pre-season, ultimately choosing Hoffenheim after being convinced by their detailed sporting project.

During the past Eredivisie season, Rots scored four goals and provided four assists over 43 total career appearances for FC Twente, helping the team secure a fourth-place finish in the league.

Hoffenheim finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, securing a spot in the Europa League after narrowly missing out on a Champions League ticket by a single point.

The transfer marks a major career shift for the Jong Oranje international, who leaves behind his older brother, Daan Rots, at the Enschede club.

Football analysts have shared contrasting perspectives on Rots' rapid development and international potential.
