Wrexham must reduce its senior roster from 33 to 25 players to comply with Championship registration rules this summer.

The squad trim follows a period of rapid promotion from the National League to the second tier of English soccer.

Previous Overhaul and Departures

The current challenge mirrors the extensive roster changes made during the 2025 summer transfer window, when 20 players left the Welsh club.

Midfielder Sam Dalby rejected a contract extension and joined Bolton Wanderers, scoring 13 goals across all competitions. He will face Wrexham next season.

Forward Jack Marriott moved to Reading for an undisclosed fee and netted 16 goals. Defender Will Boyle signed with Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer.

Veteran striker Steven Fletcher retired from professional soccer after being released by Wrexham last summer.

Several other players experienced mixed outcomes on loan or via permanent moves to lower leagues.

Forward Ollie Palmer secured a mutual contract termination before scoring 11 goals for Swindon Town.

Goalkeeper Luke McNicholas sustained a season-ending knee injury in November while playing for Forest Green Rovers.

The club also managed short-term loans, including Callum Edwards returning to Wrexham in January after a stint at Southport, and Tom O'Connor being recalled from Peterborough United for injury rehabilitation.
