A Chicago City Council committee approved a zoning change on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, allowing the Chicago Cubs to install three new advertising signs on team-owned buildings outside Wrigley Field.
The Council's Committee on Zoning, Landmarks and Building Standards passed the ordinance, introduced by Alderman Bennett Lawson after the team requested the expansion earlier this year.

According to the legislation, the Cubs will place two smaller signs on West Waveland Avenue along the left field side and one larger sign measuring up to 69 feet tall on North Sheffield Avenue along the right field side.
City regulations require the new signs to remain completely static without video screens, cannot exceed seven feet above the rooftops to which they are attached, and can only be illuminated during games and stadium events.
The new structures are expected to replace existing banners that advertise the Wrigley Field rooftop seating areas, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.
"They are selling to advertisers.
They may show me a sign that says Coke, it’s not going to be Pepsi because that’s not their partner, but it could end up as Southwest or Wintrust or whoever one of their corporate partners is," said Alderman Bennett Lawson, 44th.
The commercial addition follows previous city approvals in 2024 for a large Coca-Cola sign on Waveland Avenue and a Benjamin Moore advertisement on Sheffield Avenue.
"They’re only on during games, there’s no noise, there’s no movement of the lights or anything like that," said Lawson.
