Mexico City's historic Estadio Azteca, commercially named Estadio Banorte, is set to host five matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This makes it the first stadium to feature in three separate World Cup tournaments, having previously hosted in 1970 and 1986.

The 87,000-capacity venue underwent comprehensive renovations to meet FIFA compliance standards.

Upgrades include next-generation LED lighting, a hybrid grass pitch, modernized locker rooms, expanded hospitality sections, and new digital access control systems.

Match Schedule and Ticket Information

The stadium already hosted the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11, 2026, which Mexico won 2-0.

The remaining schedule includes Uzbekistan vs. Colombia on June 17, Mexico vs. the Czech Republic on June 24, a round of 32 match on June 30, and a round of 16 fixture on July 5.

Ticket operations have moved to a last-minute sales phase on a first-come, first-served basis via the official FIFA platform.

This follows primary ticket draws that attracted over 500 million global applications.

Resale tickets are available through official FIFA channels and verified secondary marketplaces like StubHub, with average prices ranging from $150 for group stages to $2,500 for late knockout rounds.

While the venue operates under the commercial name Estadio Banorte due to local naming rights, FIFA officially designates it as Estadio Ciudad de México during the tournament to comply with anti-commercialization policies.
