Middleweight contenders Brunno Ferreira and Ikram Aliskerov will meet on the main card of UFC Fight Night 280 on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Aliskerov enters the bout aiming for a third consecutive win, while Ferreira looks to rebound from a knockout loss to Gregory Rodrigues in March.
Ferreira expressed strong confidence, downplaying his opponent's reputation in comments to MMA Fighting.
"I think [his hype] is a bit overblown," Ferreira said.
The Brazilian noted his extensive octagon experience as a key factor.
"This will be my 10th fight in the UFC and I've faced guys with much more justified hype than him.
Fighters with more skills, more dangerous opponents, and bigger names. So I do think the hype is a little exaggerated," Ferreira said.
He acknowledged Aliskerov's danger but pointed to a predictable fighting style.
"That said, he's still a dangerous fighter. But it's that fighting style everyone knows, the Russian style," Ferreira said.
Ferreira emphasized that the delayed booking gave him ample time to study his opponent.
"I had plenty of time to study him last year, and I've had plenty of time to study him again now," Ferreira said.
He highlighted Aliskerov's struggles against elite competition in the promotion.
"When you look at his opponents, the high-level guys he's fought, he lost to them. The two big names he faced, he lost to both of them.
I see myself as a major challenge for him, a very established name in this division," Ferreira said.
Ferreira believes one clean shot will be enough to secure victory.
"I have an arsenal of submissions and the power in my hands to put him away. Everybody knows I hit hard.
I only need one clean shot, just like Whittaker and Chimaev did," Ferreira said.
He referenced Aliskerov's performance against Jun Yong Park as evidence of vulnerability.
"[Aliskerov] showed a lot of difficulty against a guy who's, let's say, average compared to the level of this division," Ferreira said.
Ferreira stated that his loss to Rodrigues served as a critical learning experience.
"The loss to 'Robocop' made me reset mentally and fix some things I needed to fix," Ferreira said.
He highlighted personal growth following that setback.
"A true warrior, a true athlete, has to learn from both mistakes and successes, and make the necessary adjustments.
And that's exactly what I did," Ferreira said.
Ferreira's head coach, Andre "Dida," discussed the strategic background of the matchup in an interview with Sherdog.
"That fight should have happened before, but Ikram hurt his foot six days before the fight.
The opponent changed [then], but we had already studied his game a lot," Dida said.
Dida praised the host city's fighting culture.
"I'm very impressed with the fans here. They are very excited about the event.
Baku breathes fighting. They have a big statue of a wrestling champion on the street of the hotel," Dida said.
The coach outlined Ferreira's tactical advantages.
"'Hulk' wanted to arrive on Thursday, so we can get totally adapted to the local time zone. He is coming very prepared for this fight.
Ikram fights the same way since his Brave tenure. 'Hulk' is more unpredictable and also has a good judo and jiu-jitsu game.
He also has KO power. So he has all the tools to surprise and neutralize the Russian," Dida said.
Aliskerov holds a 17-2 MMA record, while Ferreira stands at 15-3. The event will stream live in the United States on Paramount+.
