Chelsea has secured a full verbal agreement over personal terms with Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to Sky Deutschland.

The London club is now in direct contact with Sunderland to finalize the transfer fee for the 33-year-old Swiss international.

Xhaka's Revival Under Alonso

Xhaka resurrected his career under manager Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen after leaving Arsenal. His leadership qualities grew further during a successful stint with Sunderland.

He helped the newly promoted team finish seventh and qualify for the Europa League.

Reunion at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso reportedly wants to reunite with Xhaka to strengthen the squad ahead of Enzo Fernández's anticipated departure.
