Newly promoted Serie A side Venezia FC has opened negotiations to sign Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer, according to reports from Italian transfer journalist Nicolo Schira and multiple Italian media outlets.
The 27-year-old defender's short-term contract with Ajax is set to expire on July 1, 2026, making him available without a transfer fee.

Tomiyasu spent six months at Ajax, where he regained match fitness and rebuilt his market value after an injury-hit period at Arsenal.
He recently posted a farewell message to Ajax fans on Instagram.
Venezia is not alone in its pursuit. Sassuolo and several unnamed English clubs are also reportedly interested in the versatile defender.
Tomiyasu previously played in Italy for Bologna, where he established a strong reputation.

His experience in Serie A makes him an attractive target for Venezia as they aim to secure their top-flight status.
The player is currently focused on international duty with Japan at the World Cup.
Japan is scheduled to face Brazil in a round of 16 knockout match in Houston on Monday at 19:00 local time.
