The Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly debating an aggressive move targeting Dallas Stars restricted free agent forward Mavrik Bourque with a lucrative offer sheet on July 1, 2026.

According to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, Flyers General Manager Daniel Brière is internally discussing a contract worth approximately $7 million per season for Bourque.

If Dallas declines to match that valuation, the Stars would receive a first-round, second-round, and third-round draft pick as compensation from Philadelphia.

Financial Constraints in Dallas

The financial pressure comes at a difficult time for Dallas, which recently missed out on acquiring defenseman Zach Werenski after he vetoed a trade from Columbus.

The club is also managing a potential extension for star forward Jason Robertson, limiting salary cap flexibility.

Bourque recorded 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points in 82 games during the 2025-26 regular season.

The threat of an offer sheet could pressure Dallas into a player trade to avoid losing the 2020 30th-overall pick for draft capital alone.

League-Wide Trend

The strategic maneuver is part of a broader trend as rising salary cap limits provide franchises with spending flexibility.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman reported that several NHL organizations are evaluating offer sheets to target rival young talent.

"Offer sheets: Last year, the Hurricanes threatened the Oilers and the Rangers," Friedman wrote.

Carolina previously leveraged this strategy by signing Edmonton's Evan Bouchard to an offer sheet and forcing a trade with New York for K'Andre Miller.

Friedman noted that Carolina and the Seattle Kraken are both looking at similar aggressive tactics this offseason.

"I don’t want to get everyone’s hopes up, but there’s lots of noise out there," Friedman wrote.
