According to The Guardian, Canada's inclusion follows its recent membership in the European Broadcasting Union.

The expansion comes despite a decline in viewership, with the 2026 final attracting 130 million viewers, down from 160 million in 2025.

The Canadian public broadcaster CBC and organizers confirmed that Canada will compete in Bulgaria. Details on how the country will select its representative are expected later this year.

Marie-Philippe Bouchard, CBC president, said the move "will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world."

The 2027 contest will be held in Bulgaria after Bulgarian singer Dara won the 70th edition. Eurovision director Martin Green stated the event "continues to welcome the world."

The competition faces geopolitical tensions, as five nations boycotted the recent edition over Israel's participation amid the Gaza conflict.
