Bengaluru police have arrested a 55-year-old daycare worker following allegations of severe abuse of toddlers at a childcare facility located within the Capgemini IT campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The suspect, identified as Vijayalakshmi, was produced before a court on Friday and remanded to three-day police custody.

A second accused worker, Manjula, remains at large.

According to Inspector Suresh Reddy, three other staff members named in the July 2 First Information Report (FIR) were released after questioning yielded no incriminating evidence against them.

“Another accused, Manjula, is absconding, and our teams are making all efforts to secure her arrest at the earliest,” Reddy said.

Police officials noted that the viral clips detailing the mistreatment were allegedly captured by a former employee who resigned shortly before the footage surfaced online.

“We are also verifying the origin of the videos, when they were recorded, and the circumstances under which they were made public.

All aspects are under investigation, and appropriate action will follow based on the findings,” a senior officer said.

Following the public disclosure, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) intervened by issuing formal notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Karnataka, demanding a comprehensive report within two weeks.

In an official statement, the NHRC said the video purportedly showed nannies placing toddlers inside a washing machine, spraying water into their mouths using a toilet jet spray, locking them inside toilets to silence them, forcing them to sit on Western-style commodes, and threatening them to remain silent whenever they cried.
