The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched a suo motu investigation into alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare center operating within the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the rights panel issued notices to the Karnataka Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, demanding a detailed report within two weeks.

The NHRC stated that the allegations, if proven, raise serious concerns over human rights violations.
The case came to light after a Child Helpline official obtained videos showing caregivers mistreating toddlers while their parents were at work.
The footage reportedly depicts children being locked in toilets, placed inside a washing machine, sprayed with water using toilet jets, and threatened to stay silent.
Following the discovery, the daycare facility was temporarily closed as a precaution.

Police from the HAL station arrested Vijayalakshmi, a 50-year-old caregiver from Kolar district, who was remanded to judicial custody on Friday.
An FIR has been registered against five caregivers for allegedly abusing children aged between two and three years.
Investigators are examining the role of the remaining four women and verifying the collected video evidence.
During questioning, Vijayalakshmi reportedly claimed that the toddlers' frequent crying and disruptive behavior provoked her actions.

Capgemini has shut down the facility and stated it is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
