The performers' union SAG-AFTRA has consistently opposed the character's designation as a professional performer since its unveiling.
"'Tilly Norwood' is not an actor," SAG-AFTRA stated in an official release.
The union criticized Particle 6 for training computer programs on existing human performances without permission or compensation.
"It's a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation," the statement reads.
SAG-AFTRA has prioritized restrictions on synthetic performers in labor contracts and advocates for federal protections through the NO FAKES Act.
Prominent actors including Emily Blunt, Melissa Barrera, and Whoopi Goldberg have previously voiced disapproval of the virtual character.
Filmmaker Luke Barnett dismissed the project's headlines as a marketing ploy, writing on X, "Reminder that none of this is real.

Media professors note the project reflects ongoing debates about generative technology. Richard Lachman of Toronto Metropolitan University suggested it could split filmmaking into AI-heavy and traditional models.
"This is exactly what AI companies have been promising, and actors' unions worried about," Lachman told CBC News.
He added that while the development is a predictable progression for indie cinema, it does not guarantee complete displacement of human performers.
