Reform UK leader Nigel Farage resigned his Clacton parliamentary seat on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, triggering a by-election amid intense scrutiny over undeclared financial donations.
The move prompted major political parties to boycott the upcoming vote, leaving satirical candidate Count Binface as one of his primary challengers.

Investigation and Resignation
The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner is currently investigating Farage over a £5 million gift from cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne and separate support from convicted fraudster George Cottrell.
Farage insisted he has "done nothing wrong" and argued the investigation is an establishment tool.
"This will be a people versus the establishment by-election," he said. "It's a chance to stick two fingers up at the entire establishment."
He maintained that the multi-million dollar funds were essential to secure lifelong private protection due to high security threats.
"I will fight to win. I will fight to continue the political revolution that Reform has started," he added.
The independent investigation into the £5 million gift remains suspended due to his resignation but will automatically resume if Farage regains his seat.
Political Reactions
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer described the resignation as a "desperate stunt."
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said her party will not stand a candidate in the "fake by-election."
"We need to let that investigation run its course, and I think the reason why Nigel Farage has resigned is because he's terrified that he's going to be found to have done something wrong," she said.
