A new class action lawsuit in California claims that certain Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks have defective rear sliding windows that allow water to enter the cabin.

The suit targets 2019 and 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models equipped with power-sliding rear windows.

Owner's $1,000 Repair Bill

California resident Filiberto Loza Gonzalez filed the lawsuit after discovering water intrusion in his 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 while washing the truck.

Although a dealership verified the issue and performed repairs, Gonzalez alleges he was left with a bill exceeding $1,000.

Online forum posts suggest other owners have experienced similar problems with water leaking into the cab.

One user on GM-Trucks. com reported that GM applied sealant instead of replacing the window, and the sealant failed over time.

GM's Repeated Service Bulletins

The lawsuit argues that GM knew about the defect for years, citing Technical Service Bulletin 18-NA-383.

The bulletin instructed technicians to inspect for cracks in the rear window's plastic upper rail guide, which could allow water to bypass the seal.

GM's prescribed repair involved applying seam sealer across the top of the window assembly. If the repair failed, dealers were to replace the entire window assembly.

The bulletin has undergone numerous revisions, with the March 2023 version labeled Version 13, dating back to early 2019.

The proposed class includes owners and lessees in California of certain 2019 and 2020 Silverado and Sierra 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD models.

The allegations remain unproven, and GM has not been found liable. However, the case could affect many owners.
