Local police redirected all inquiries to federal authorities.
Maine State House Speaker Ryan Fecteau confirmed the initial details through a post on his personal social media account.
"This morning a shooting occurred in Biddeford," Fecteau wrote.
He clarified that federal personnel were involved and noted that local and national investigators were arriving to secure the crime scene.
"A person was killed. ICE was involved.
State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well," Fecteau added.

Officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The Maine confrontation occurred six days after another ICE agent fatally shot local builder Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas, while attempting to halt his vehicle.
Federal representatives stated that the agent in the Texas incident acted in self-defense, though bystanders contradicted claims that the driver used his vehicle as a weapon.
According to a DHS spokesperson, Salgado was not the actual target of the operation but was stopped because he resembled the suspect.
The fatal encounter in Maine marks the 11th shooting death involving federal immigration officials since the second Trump administration began in early 2025.
