An ICE spokesperson said officers attempted to intercept a vehicle near the targeted location before the situation escalated.

The driver, later identified as Joan Sebastian Guerrero, was shot after allegedly trying to flee.

Protests and Political Reactions

The shooting has intensified criticism of President Donald Trump’s ongoing deportation campaign. It marks at least the seventh fatal shooting during immigration enforcement actions since January 2025.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in Biddeford shortly after the incident, chanting “get ICE out” and expressing anger toward Republican Senator Susan Collins for her legislative support of the Department of Homeland Security.

Senator Angus King initiated direct communications with administration officials to address the deployment of federal personnel in the state.
