R Kelly has formally submitted an appeal to President Trump, seeking a reduction of his 31-year prison sentence.
The R&B singer was convicted in 2021 for leading a criminal enterprise involving sex trafficking and child abuse.

Kelly, 59, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, received a 30-year sentence in 2021.
In 2022, he was given an additional 20-year sentence for child abuse images and enticement charges, to be served concurrently, bringing his total to 31 years.
He is currently imprisoned in a federal facility in North Carolina and is not eligible for release until January 2046.
Details of the Clemency Request
The details of Kelly's commutation request were made public through court records from the pardon attorney's office.

His attorney, Beau Brindley, has been advocating for Kelly's case to President Trump for over a year.
Brindley stated that “the only thing that can protect Mr. Kelly behind the prison walls now is the fact that now the world is watching.”
He urged both the courts and Trump to address what he describes as corruption affecting Kelly's life.

Kelly has consistently denied all allegations against him.
