A driver in British Columbia offered an unusual excuse for speeding: they were trying to dry their freshly washed car.
Police in Port Coquitlam clocked a sedan traveling at 111 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, nearly double the posted limit.

When stopped by the Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services, the driver reportedly explained they had just washed the vehicle and were attempting to blow remaining water droplets off the bodywork.
Authorities were not convinced.
The RCMP noted that such excessive speed endangered other road users and violated British Columbia's laws on excessive speeding.
The driver received a violation ticket and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police did not disclose the driver's identity or the exact make and model of the sedan, but a blurry photo released suggests it may be a second-generation Lexus LS from the mid-1990s.
The RCMP used the incident to remind motorists that no excuse justifies driving at such dangerous speeds.
"Please slow down and adhere to road signage, even if you've just washed your car," the department wrote.

The driver now has plenty of time to consider alternative drying methods while their car sits in the impound lot.
