Otamendi confronted Rodri over pre-match referee comments made by Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte.
"Start talking less, you big baby; you were whining all week. You were whining all week long," Otamendi said.
"You and Laporte. Both of you.
You don't do that. You were whining to the referees, my friend."
Rodri urged Otamendi to maintain composure during the exchange.
"Have some respect," Rodri said.
Otamendi dismissed the response before teammates intervened to separate the former Manchester City clubmates.
"You don't need to do that, you know?" Otamendi said.
Meanwhile, the Argentine fan petition created by Gisela Sanchez outlined the supporters' stance on the officiating.

The petition description asserted that officiating decisions affected the match's fairness.
"However, the recent final between Argentina and Spain was marred by the controversial and corrupt conduct of the referee, who—according to video evidence—was bribed to influence the match's outcome," Sanchez said.
The document expressed frustration over the outcome following extra time.
"This is a monumental disappointment for players, coaches, and, above all, for the fans who long to see a game decided by talent and dedication on the pitch, rather than by rigged officiating decisions," Sanchez said.
The petition organizers pointed to social media footage as justification for their request.
"Various videos circulating on social media show the referee making calls that clearly favored one team over the other, altering the natural course of the match," Sanchez said.
