The Netherlands is bracing for a severe mid-summer heat surge this week, with temperatures expected to climb well above 30 degrees Celsius in many regions.

After a brief period of clouds and light precipitation, shifting wind patterns will bring drier, warmer air from Southwestern Europe.

Monday will start with overcast conditions and light showers, but these will clear by afternoon, leading to temperatures around 23 to 24 degrees Celsius.

By Tuesday, inland areas are forecast to reach 27 to 30 degrees Celsius under predominantly clear skies.

Peak Heat Expected Midweek

The hottest conditions are projected for Wednesday and Thursday, with regional peaks between 31 and 37 degrees Celsius.

Meteo Limburg reports that southern parts of the country could see temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius during the middle of the week.

Coastal regions will experience slightly lower highs near 31 to 32 degrees Celsius, with sea temperatures around 21 degrees Celsius.

Forecaster Jordi Bloem noted that air moving in from France will keep evening conditions exceptionally warm as the mid-week peak approaches.

“This will be the hottest day of the week,” Bloem said. “Top-notch beach weather.”

The meteorologist emphasized that the peak daytime heat will extend into the night, complicating efforts to cool indoor spaces.

“From Wednesday to Thursday we get a tropical night. That's not a pleasant night,” Bloem warned.

“We'll still be fully in the hot air from France. It will be a real sticky night.”
