This listing is mainland China's second-largest ever, trailing only Agricultural Bank of China's $22.1 billion dual listing in 2010.

By early afternoon, trading pushed CXMT's valuation to roughly 3.3 trillion yuan (over $487 billion), making it the most valuable listed company in mainland China.

However, it still trails global rivals Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology.

Strategic Role in China's AI Push

The Hefei-based company, founded in 2016, produces dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips used in AI servers, automobiles, PCs, and smartphones.

Growing AI adoption helped CXMT achieve quarterly revenue of 50.8 billion yuan ($7.5 billion) in the first three months of 2026, a 700 percent year-over-year increase.

Analysts highlight CXMT's tactical position within the domestic supply chain amid global shortages and trade restrictions.

“CXMT plays a critical role in China's AI push, particularly in the face of U. S.

export controls,” said Kyle Chan, a fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Chan noted that U. S.

restrictions prevent Chinese entities from importing advanced high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, leaving CXMT as the primary domestic option for developing localized memory components.

“CXMT is seen as China's best shot at developing its own cutting-edge HBM chips to power Chinese AI models,” he added.

Nevertheless, expansion faces supply chain constraints due to limited access to international manufacturing tools, forcing reliance on domestic equipment suppliers.
