The next-generation Hyundai Kona has been caught completely undisguised in Korea, showing a boxier and more mature design that borrows styling cues from the Ioniq electric vehicle family.

Spy photos posted on social media by @EWVexillary reveal a taller, more upright stance compared to the current model, with cleaner surfacing and reduced plastic cladding.

Design and Styling

The front end retains the split-headlight arrangement, but the main lighting units are now smaller and the full-LED light bar is thicker.

A sculpted bumper with smaller intakes and a covered grille complete the look.

In profile, the unpainted plastic cladding has been removed, giving the SUV a more modern appearance. A subtle two-tone treatment pairs gray pillars with matte silver bodywork.

The flanks trade the outgoing model's diagonal creases for cleaner lines, and the greenhouse is entirely new with a straight beltline leading to a more upright tail.

Dimensions have not been confirmed, but the Kona may grow in size.

The mechanically related Kia Seltos stretches to 4,430 mm (174.4 inches), while the current Kona measures 4,350 mm (171.3 in) and the Creta 4,330 mm (170.5 in).

A larger footprint could help the Kona bridge the gap between the subcompact and compact SUV segments in Europe, competing with the VW T-Roc, Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-30.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the crossover is expected to gain a digital cockpit with larger screens, similar to the Ioniq 3.
