Chelsea began their pre-season tour in Sydney while Rogers was on holiday after his World Cup involvement.

Alonso stressed the importance of getting the balance right by placing special players in the right positions and using strong ball control to improve performances.

"We need to have a good mix.

If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions, with good control, then we will be more competitive with and without the ball," he said.

Chelsea also expect to announce the signing of France defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £52m, which would make him the club's oldest signing since 2022.

The club has already brought in winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting, striker Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg, and full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta.

Midfielder Valentin Barco is expected to join from Strasbourg in the coming weeks.

Alonso added that the club should anticipate further movement before the transfer window closes, saying Chelsea need to be flexible and quick.

"We need to know that there will probably still be some movement," he said.
