The project is supported by $25 million in provincial funding to address complex care needs.
"It's a fairly small department that was designed for less patients and less complex patients," said Dr. Alim Pardhan, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences.
"The intention here is it will give us a bigger space with bigger rooms so that we'll be better able to take care of patients."
Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission allocated $1.38 million across seven acute care hospitals through its PATHways program.
The program facilitates senior home discharges and reduces emergency department boarding.
"The seven new PATHways hospitals and their partners will connect patients with the support they need to discharge from hospitals and receive care in their homes and communities," said David Seltz, Executive Director at Massachusetts Health Policy Commission.
He noted that an estimated 2,000 residents ready for discharge remain hospitalized each day.
"We are excited to collaborate with the Health Policy Commission on the PATHways Investment Program," said Robin Lipson, Secretary at Aging & Independence.
Separately, diplomatic discussions addressed defense stockpile levels during ongoing military operations overseas.
NBC News host Kristen Welker asked, "Is America backing away from a larger military attack because its military stockpile has been depleted?"
US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said the administration "inherited a depleted situation" but has "everything that it needs to conduct this campaign as effectively as it needs to be."
