Four Dutch nationals who disappeared during a speedboat crossing on Lake Malawi have been rescued alive, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The group went missing on July 26, 2026, after departing from Mbamba Bay in Tanzania and failing to arrive at Nkhata Bay in Malawi.

Three local crew members were also aboard the vessel. Local authorities launched an immediate search operation involving emergency services, fishermen, and shoreline residents.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the operation concluded successfully and the rescued individuals are now receiving medical assistance on land.
"We are providing consular assistance to the family during this difficult time," a ministry spokesperson said.

Embassy staff maintained close communication with local officials throughout the search. The ministry could not initially confirm specific details reported by Malawian media outlets like the Nyasa Times.
