Musician Steve Lacy accidentally revealed that actress Sadie Sink plays the villainous character Jean Grey during the red carpet premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 27, 2026.
The slip confirmed long-standing rumors about Sink's undisclosed role.

Lacy, whose song is featured on the movie's official soundtrack, disclosed the major plot detail when asked to name his favorite character during a live interview.
"Jean. I like Jean.
She's the villain, but there's a reason to her madness. I like her.
I like her character," Lacy said.

The film features an ensemble cast alongside Tom Holland, including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, Marvin Jones III, Zabryna Guevara, Keith David, Liza Colón-Zayas, Eman Esfandi, Benedict Cezair-Thompson, and Mark Ruffalo.

Destin Daniel Cretton directed the project from a script written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Justin Kuritzkes.
Prior to the accidental leak, industry insider Cryptic HD Quality reported that British actor Olivia Booth-Ford would play Jean Grey's sister, Sarah Grey, in the film.
The scoop also noted that Sadie Sink's sister, Jacey Sink, was previously considered for an unconfirmed appearance.
The production follows Peter Parker operating as Spider-Man full-time after the world forgot his identity, forcing him to face a new, unseen threat.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will release Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters on July 31, preceded by early access screenings starting July 29.
