Dutch club Ajax is actively working to re-sign West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez, facing competition from Spanish side Real Sociedad, according to De Telegraaf.

Technical director Jordi Cruyff has held discussions with the 103-cap Mexican international to explore potential agreement structures.

Alvarez previously spent four seasons with Ajax between 2019 and 2023, winning two league titles and one KNVB Cup before his 38 million euro transfer to West Ham.

Transfer Fee and Competition

Following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League last season, the English club is demanding approximately 15 million euros for the midfielder.

Ajax must sell players to generate funds, as West Ham prefers a direct sale rather than a loan or restructuring payment terms from the previous deal.

Real Sociedad has submitted a formal proposal offering over 7.5 million euros for 50 percent of Alvarez's transfer rights, with options to purchase additional percentages through bonuses.

Ajax is reportedly examining a similar co-ownership structure or loan options to complete the deal.

While the player's management declined to comment, Alvarez previously addressed the speculation in an interview with ELF Voetbal.

"I know they want me back. Ajax fans are in my heart forever.

I hope to see them again soon," Alvarez said. "Right now I am a West Ham player.
