Cumbria Constabulary arrested 29 individuals across the county during a five-day sweep from July 20 to July 24, 2026, as part of Operation Merlin.
The targeted enforcement aimed to locate suspects wanted for drug supply, sexual offenses, violence, and court order violations.

On the first day of the crackdown, officers made seven arrests primarily centered around the Kendal area.
Among those detained was Oliver Jelley, 24, of Bridge Lane, Troutbeck, who was charged with coercive behavior, assault, and criminal damage before being remanded by Furness Magistrates' Court to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on August 21.
Subsequent actions throughout the week netted suspects for various alleged offenses across Cumbria, including drug trafficking, burglary, threats to kill, and failure to appear in court.
Authorities arrested a 30-year-old Carlisle man on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply, while two individuals wanted by another police force for drug supply were also taken into custody.
Community Intelligence Drives Enforcement
"While our officers are targeting those people who think they are above the law on a day-to-day basis, these regular Operation Merlin weeks of action continue to be effective in putting wanted individuals into police cells," said Superintendent Matt Pearman.
Pearman highlighted that public intelligence frequently drives the force's proactive enforcement strategies.
"This proactive approach is often fuelled by community intelligence provided by members of the public and I would encourage anyone who knows of criminality occurring in their neighbourhood to come forward so that action can be taken," said Superintendent Matt Pearman.
