This jackpot is the 10th-largest grand prize in Mega Millions history. It trails the $810 million jackpot won in Texas on September 10, 2024.
The game record remains $1.602 billion, won in Florida on August 8, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has also grown to $633 million, with a cash value of $277.2 million, after its July 25 drawing produced no winner.
Payout Options and Tax Considerations
Winners can choose between a lump-sum cash payment or an annuity option: an immediate payment followed by 29 annual checks that increase by 5% each year.
The last Mega Millions jackpot win was $60 million in Ohio on March 17.
After taxes, payouts vary by state.
Nine states, including California, Florida, Texas, and Washington, impose no state tax on lottery winnings, preserving an annuitized value of roughly $505.3 million.
